Kedco Wood Pellet Timber House

What is rfequired from me?

In order to ensure the smooth installation of your wood pellet timber house, the following are required:

  • 100mm concrete slab 12ft x 8ft

  • ESB to be at required point

  • Plumber to carry out all plumbing requirements to allow you to install a wood pellet heating system. The plumber will also be required to connect the boiler and attach the flue provided

When can I expect delivery of my house?

There is approximately a 6 week lead-time from the date of ordering the house to the date of arrival

Can I still avail of the SEI Grant and how much am I entitled to?

Yes, you can still avail of the grant from the Greener Homes scheme from Sustainable Energy Ireland. The timber house includes a Kedco boiler; therefore you can avail of the full grant of €3,000. For advice on applying for the grant, please ask your local Kedco agent.

What foundations do I need for the timber house?

The dimensions of the house are 12ft (l) x 8ft (w), and must be erected on a 100mm level concrete slab. We recommend that the foundation slab has an extra 200mm edging around the perimeters and that it is slightly sloping to allow water to flow from the slab.

When must the plumbing be done?

We recommend that the plumbing be done prior to the arrival of the boiler, as space within the house is limited when the boiler is in place. The plumber will have enough room to make the necessary connections when the boiler is in, but would find it difficult to manoeuvre if he was starting with the boiler in place.

Are there any particular considerations when choosing a site for the house?

The distance the wood pellet fuel can be delivered is extremely important when considering the positioning of the timber house. Consideration must be given to any of the bends that the pipe must take to get from the truck to the inlet point. As a guide we recommend that any timber house that has a straight-line connection from where the truck will be parked to the inlet should be at a connecting distance of no more than 80ft.

When ordering, do I need to specify anything in particular?

Yes, it is very important that you have decided where the house will be situated and the direction that you wish the house to be facing. This will determine whether you receive a left or right sided Kedco boiler.

Do I need to be on-site when the house fitters arrive?

We recommend that you are on-site when the fitters arrive, this way you can ensure that the positioning and direction of the house is to your preference. This positioning must be as per your instructions when ordering the house. You will also need to be on-site when your boiler arrives, and you will be required to have 4 or 5 people to assist you in moving the boiler from the entrance to the timber house.

How does this timber house differ from a regular garden shed?

The house walls are heavier than the average garden shed wall. Each wall comes as a full unit and is not portioned, thus ensuring the strength of the wall and the waterproof integrity of the house.

Is the house certified for being waterproof?

Yes, the house is waterproof. The timber that is used is kiln dried timber which is treated for water proofing.
