Solar Case Study

Challenge:

(Q) What issues were faced by you, the customer that prompted you to purchase a Kedco Energy solution?

(A) The volatile price of oil was a major factor, but we also wanted to do something to help the environment.

(Q) What technology did you purchase?

(A) Wood pellet boiler and solar tubes for hot water.

(Q) Why did you decide to install this technology?

(A) These are both renewable energy technologies, which are good for the environment, and the research we did into renewables showed us that they were the most cost effective.

(Q) What exactly have you bought from Kedco?

(A) We bought a Kedco wood pellet boiler with a 3 tonne indoor pellet store as well as a 30 tube solar system to help give us hot water. We bought this with assurances from Kedco that they would fully install, commission and maintain these systems for us if and when necessary, and a promise of full technical back-up if we had any problems.

(Q) When did you purchase the system?

(A) We had them installed in May 2008 when our new home was near completion.

(Q) What are the key benefits of this implementation to you?

(A) The solar is giving us plenty of hot water and our wood pellet boiler is doing a great job of heating our house, but we really like the idea that we are doing our bit to reduce our carbon emissions and help the environment.

(Q) Did this replace any existing product or service? (i.e. did you convert from gas/oil or was your home new and you chose to have this installed instead)

(A) Our home is newly built so we made the conscious decision to have these renewable technologies installed.

(Q) Why did choose to go with Kedco Energy over its competitors?

(A) We felt that these products were the best value for money out of all of the ones we had looked at. The products themselves are great and the service and back up we have received has been very pleasing.

(Q) Is there a cost saving to you and your family?

(A) Yes there is, but it is difficult to say how much as this is our first home and our first time using these technologies. We do feel that the price of our wood pellet fuel has been very consistant and stable compared to what has happened to the price of fossil fuels over the last year, and more importantly, what is likely to happen to the price of oil and gas in the future.

(Q) Did the availability of a government grant influence your decision to install a renewable technology?

(A) Yes. We applied for the grant that was available at the time.

(Q) Where are you storing your wood pellets?

(A) We have an indoor bulk store for our pellets in a special boiler room in our garage.

(Q) Any other additional comments you would like to make.

(A) We are very pleased with what we have bought and feel that the service we have received from Kedco has been excellent. It was not an easy decision to make to buy into what was unknown territory for us, but the help and expertise of Kedco made the decision much easier.
